SPIDER WEBS AND CASTLE: 23rd September

Saturday: Woke up to the first misty morning of the autumn. All night the spiders had been busy at their work, creating huge shrouds, shawls and curtains of webs, draped over every available surface including plants, trees, railings and bushes. All were dripping with tiny water roplets. None had flies or spiders in them, save one, where a fat-bellied spider sat ensconced in the centre of a huge web, with the castle visible behind it. Perfect pictures to start the day.

SLIGHTLY LATER THAT SAME DAY

LEWES ARMS: MAN & KITE

So this man turned up
Suddenly
Outside the Lewes Arms
With his red-tailed kite
And a bandage on his arm
Which looked suspiciously like
An injury
That could have been inflicted by a bird
Which proved to be the case
